How to use Susta

Everything the app does, in one place.

The gist. Set your goal once, then scan any food for a clear Buy / Limit / Avoid — with the evidence behind it. Learn the why, cook it in your cuisine, and keep a private record that's yours. Everything runs on your device; nothing leaves unless you choose.

1. Getting started

On first launch, pick your goal — blood-sugar control, longevity, weight, GLP-1 muscle protection, keto, or everyday healthy. Susta tunes every verdict to that goal, so the same food can read differently for you than for someone else. You can change your goal any time in You → Your profile → Change goal; your logs and history stay.

2. Scan a food

Tap Scan and point your camera at a barcode, or type the number. Susta looks it up and returns a Buy / Limit / Avoid verdict with the reasons and an evidence grade. No barcode? Use Search a whole food for produce, meat, and staples ("salmon", "jasmine rice").

3. Reading the verdict

The verdict answers "should I eat this, for my goal?" Two things are kept separate and honest:

  • Verdict — Buy, Limit, or Avoid, plus a fit meter (a 5-dot scale, never a letter, so it can't be mistaken for a fixed nutrition score).
  • Evidence grade (A–D) — how strong the science behind the call is, not how "good" the food is. When a call rests on a preference rather than hard data, it's badged a "personal standard" and says so.

Tap the evidence chip to see the studies behind a verdict. On a Limit or Avoid, Susta suggests better swaps. Tap Share verdict card to send a clean, branded card to a chat or your socials.

4. Snap a meal

For a cooked plate (rice + ulam, a stir-fry, a salad): Scan → Snap a meal → photograph the whole plate. Susta estimates it and the engine judges it. Estimates are approximate — for exact numbers, scan the packaged items.

5. Teach a product Susta doesn't know

If a barcode isn't recognised, tap Photograph the label and snap the back of the pack (ingredients + nutrition table). Susta reads it and judges it, and saves it on your device. Tap Add to Open Food Facts to contribute the product so the next person's scan finds it.

No barcode printed on the package at all (common for local or home-based brands)? Tap "Package has no barcode at all? Photograph the label instead" next to the barcode field — same label-photo reading, no lookup needed first. These stay private to your device; they don't go to Open Food Facts, since that database is built around real barcodes.

6. Learn the why

Every verdict can open a short, cited lesson — added sugar, protein, blood sugar, fasting, food safety, and more. Conviction, not compliance: you learn why, with the source shown. Browse them all from Home → Learn the why.

7. Crave → Cook

Open Cook for goal-matched suggestions, free. On Susta Plus, type what you're craving ("a warm noodle soup") and tap Find my dish — suggestions keep your cuisine's identity and swap only the glucose-spiking base, always explained. Every dish has a "How to cook it" section — tap to expand real step-by-step instructions, not just an ingredient list. Your pantry panel highlights items near their use-by, and Susta boosts dishes that use them so nothing goes to waste.

8. Plan & shopping list

Plan builds your day around your goal — breakfast, lunch, and dinner from graded dishes. Turn it on and today's picks also show up in Cook, in their own "Today's plan" section, so what you planned is what you actually find when you go to cook it. The shopping list collects what your recipes and plans need, grouped by which dish each ingredient is for, so a grocery run is one tap and one clear list — not a jumble.

9. Coach

Ask real questions in Coach ("how much protein should I aim for?", "what is GLP-1?"). Answers are grounded in Susta's cited lessons — and it tells you when it isn't sure rather than bluffing. It never advises on medication.

10. You: progress, streaks & reminders

The You tab is your private record. Log your weight and a 10-second daily check-in; it charts your trend and the habits that move it.

  • Streak & Today — a streak for showing up, and a daily "Today" card on Home with what to do next.
  • Achievements — honest milestones for consistency and real healthy behaviour. Tap an earned badge to share it.
  • Reminders (on the phone app) — opt-in, gentle nudges scheduled on your device: a daily check-in, a weekly review, and a heads-up before pantry items expire. A few, never spam. Turn them on in You → Profile → Reminders.

Everything is yours to export any time, free.

11. Backup & privacy

Susta is on-device by default — verdicts run locally, and only a barcode number ever leaves to look up a product. Turn on Backup (sign in with email or Google) to sync to your private cloud space so you can reach your data from another phone; then changes save automatically. Delete all my data wipes both copies. No ads, no analytics, no selling your data — ever. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.

12. Help & feedback

Found a bug or have an idea? You → Profile → Feedback & ideas sends it straight to the team, or email roseller@gmail.com. See what's changed on the Changelog.
